A record field of 32 runners enjoyed a fine autumn day for this year’s Penchrise Pen Hill Race and despite having to contend with a headwind on the way home some fine performances saw both the male and female records broken.

First home was Moorfoot’s Andrew Cox in a time of 35.10 who only had 6 seconds to spare from Falkirk’s Brian Turner who also beat the previous record and was first MV40. Third place went to local Rory Anderson, while Gala Harrier Ian Maxwell was first MV50 and Martin Hulme of Corstorphine claimed first MV60.

First lady home was Dianne Lauder of Gala Harriers who lowered the female record by over a minute finishing 5th overall in 38.10. Claire Hopkins of Edinburgh was second lady while another Gala Harrier Eileen Maxwell was third and matched husband Ian in taking the V50 prize. Mandy Short of Teviotdale got the prize for first FV40.

Thanks to all who ran and those who helped out on the day making it possible to get a run myself and of course the team of bakers who once again produced some tasty treats.
