East District Cross Country – League Race 1

Men’s Start

The ancient royal burgh of Stirling was the venue for the first east district league race of the season. The event was held within sight of historic Airthrey Castle in the grounds of the University of Stirling. Central AC acted as hosts for the day. In recent times the club has had some success in the East District League. The senior men won the event in 86/87, 87/88 & 92/93. The U13 boys won it in 82/83, U15 boys in 93/94 & 94/95 and the U17 boys in 03/04. The U11 girls won the event in 03/04.

In total 700 runners took part in the event and they enjoyed near perfect underfoot conditions for a change. Harriers had 18 runners taking part which included 12 juniors.

First race of the day was the under 11 girl’s race run over 1550m. Running in their first cross country race for the club were Poppie Gibson and Nadine Elder. Senior/Jun/Masters Men
The final race of the day took place over 9,000m and had four Harriers taking part. First home for the club was Iain Williams in 79th position in a time of 35:21. Alan Inglis was in 96th place in a time of 36:15 followed by Alex Corbett in 152nd place in a time of 39:21. Michael Yule was 186th in a time of 41:43. Although the men were two runners short of a full team of six they had enough “old men” to field a
veteran’s team. They were 8th overall in the master’s teams competition. Well done to everyone who took part, great to see so many Teviotdale Harriers vests on show.
