Cup Races 7/3/15

Wet and very windy conditions were the order of the day for Teviotdale Harriers last race of the season. The Moor Cup held on Hawick Race-course is one of the oldest cross country races in the country and a good number of harriers turned out despite the nasty weather conditions. Amongst them were newcomers Maddi Patterson and Kirsty Hughes.

First away on their lap and a half course were the u11/u13 boys and girls. Taking the lead early on and holding it to the line was Boyd Hughes in a time of 9.58, 2nd boy Fraser Clyne in 10.10 and 3rd William Brodie in 10.22. Fastest actual time Fraser Clyne. In the girls race sister Ava Hughes took 1st place in 10.09, 2nd newcomer Maddi Patterson in 10.19 and 3rd Macy Cropper in 10.39. Fastest actual time Carly Blaikie.

Next to run their 2 lap course were the u15/17 boys and girls and ladies. 1st place after a close finish between the 2 ladies went to Donna Inglis in 14.13 with Lauren Corbett just seconds behind in 14.17, 3rd place went to Anne Renwick in 14.44. Fastest actual time Ishbel Inglis. Jamie Waugh crossed the line for the boys in 14.26. Jamie also had fastest actual time overall.

Last race of the day was the 4 lap course for senior men. With the strong wind face on in the home straight conditions were arduous. There were 13 men competing with an age range of 19 to 81 years of age. Crossing the line 1st was Bruce Hughes in 26.46, 2nd Alan Inglis in 27.29. Alan also picks up the Glencairn Trophy for fastest 40- plus runner in this race, 3rd place went to Rory Anderson in 27.45. Fastest actual time Rory Anderson. Keeping an eye on proceedings was Ian ‘Herb’ Elliot who set the course record in 1975 with a finishing time of 14.28.
