Summer Races Reports – Park Run

Edinburgh Park Run
Saturday 6th July 2013

When Alan and I found ourselves with a free Saturday recently we decided to take a trip to Edinburgh and take part in the Edinburgh park run. We registered online and got our barcode to pin to our vests instead of a regular number. Entry was completely free. President Alan Coltman has been a regular attendee at these events and spoke very highly of the whole set up so we thought we would give it a go.

Saturday 6th July we parked and took a walk down onto the seafront at Cramond. It was a beautiful sunny day and there were a large number of runners warming up along the front. We had a wee run then took our place at the start line at 9.30am. There were about 300 runners on the line, some regulars, some new like ourselves, a group of lads on the start of their stag night and visitors from abroad. There were all ages and abilities, children very welcome too. The route follows the sea front for 2k then there is a loop round a grassy area leading back onto the sea front to finish. I met Alan coming off the loop just as I was starting it! At the finish line you are given a ’token’ like a key fob with a barcode on it and you give both this and your individual barcode to the officials who send you both a text and email later in the day with your confirmed time. Times for us were Alan 19:16, Donna 25:41. A good day out and one I would recommend to all.
