A disappointing field of only 15 runners on a great day for running up at Stobs on Sunday, apparently there was a little confusion as the SHR website had published the wrong start time which I only discovered a couple of hours before the race so apologies for this and hopefully nobody turned up at the later time. However those who did turn up all seemed to have an enjoyable day and produced a good race with only 23 seconds separating the first three runners. First home was Ali Welsh from Bowland Fellrunners leading the way for the V50’s in a time of 39:22, Ali had made the long trip up in preparation for next week’s English championship race just down the road at Keilder, which looks like being a great but tough route. Just 6 seconds back was Carnethy’s Charlotte Morgan with a new ladies record time despite finishing 2nd lady in Saturday’s gruelling Two Breweries Race, in fact a third of the field had completed in the Breweries so all due respect. 3rd place went to Wooler’s Chrys Murphy who also collected the prize for best aggregate time from this and the Harrier’s 10k as well as being 1st V60, well done Chrys. With the small turnout Teviotdale had the team prize to themselves and it was Barry Spence, Rob Cranston and Bill Knox who took the honours for the home club, with what must be the highest combined age for a winning team. Thanks for those who turned up and all who helped out and also the positive feedback I received, the general feeling being that it’s worth giving it another go next year and then take it from there.
