Jubilee Race Report

Saturday past saw Teviotdale Harriers hold their annual Jubilee Club Race. Held on Hawick Moor in atrocious weather, conditions were very wet, very cold and very windy to say the least. A real baptism of fire for first time runners Jack Mitchell, Robin Lowthian, Liam Bouglas, Macy Cropper, Natasha Aitken and Richard Allott. Having endured heavy rain during their warm up the juniors lined up wet and cold but undeterred to take part in their race. First off were the u13 girls and boys and the winners were: Boys – Sam Allott 1st place in 14.38, 2nd Fraser Clyne in 14.55 and 3rd Liam Bouglas in 15.08. Girls – 1st Lucy Ash 15.50, 2nd Sophie Allott 16.03 and 3rd Carly Blaikie 16.05. Newcomer Macy Cropper lost a trainer in the mud but she retrieved it and carried on regardless showing true spirit and determination.

Next off were the u15 boys/girls/senior women. Victory in the female race went to Ishbel Inglis in 21.58, 2nd Pam Paxton 22.44 and 3rd Donna Inglis 23.17. 1st male Joseph Tottman in 21.19 and 2nd Jamie Waugh 21.32.

Last race of the day saw senior men line up for their extremely punishing course as the weather deteriorated once again. Coming on to the finishing straight newcomer Richard Allott was the front runner with Alan Inglis a close second, they both surged for the line with Richard coming out the victor in 36.12, Alan 2nd in 36.15 and 3rd place for Barry Spence in 36.28. All times contain handicaps.

The club would like to publicly thank Robson’s Funeral Directors for their sponsorship of the special 125th centenary medals for this race which will be presented at our Presentation Night in March 2014. Much appreciated by all at Teviotdale Harriers.
