Saturday past and the 3rd East District Cross Country League Race was held at Broxburn. Usually the coldest of venues the day was bright and sunny on arrival and not as cold as expected. A new course awaited the runners, and on walking round to survey this, all agreed it was going to be a good run even though there was a cold surprise awaiting them all at the bottom of the first hill – an enormous and deep puddle.
First off was youngster Fraser Clyne in the U11 boys race – 1.6k. Fraser ran a good strong race staying within the top 10 runners and came in 8th overall in a time of 6.40. A fantastic effort. Next off were the U13 boys/girls covering a 2.9k distance and Teviotdale had 3 runners in this race. First in for the harriers was Ishbel Inglis in a time of 14.20, 34th girl then Joseph Tottman in a time of 14.47, 47th boy and Emma Grieve in a time of 15.38, 47th girl. In the ladies race covering 5.8k Sylvia Grieve ran for the ladies finishing in a time of 35.31, position 91st. Finally the senior men took off on their 8.7k route, 3 laps of the entire course. First to cross the line for Teviotdale was Craig Grieve 36.46, 93rd then Alan Inglis 38.17, 117th and Alan Coltman 45.12, 203rd.
Highlight of the day for both spectators and runners – though mostly spectators was the enormous puddle and the skill shown by the athletes at manoevuring this obstacle.
