FUN RUN

Teviotdale Harriers 10k and 2 mile fun run took place on a warm and sunny Sunday 25th August 2013. The first race of the day was the junior fun run with 61 runners lined up ready for the 2 mile route round the perimeter of Wilton Lodge Park, over the Laurie Bridge, along the back of the high school to finish on the green next to the Haugh. Leading from start to finish was Teviotdale Harrier Fraser Clyne in a time of 13.27, second over the line was Gala Harrier Gregor Collins in 14.37, followed by Teviotdale Harrier Ishbel Inglis in a time of 14.54 taking the title of 1st girl. Jai Patterson of Hawick was next to cross the line taking the title of 3rd boy in a time of 15.19 alongside second young female Rhiannon Fagan of Gala Harriers recording the same time 15.19. Teviotdale Harrier Holly Crawford took 3rd girl position in a time of 16.24. Out of the 61 runners 30 were junior Teviotdale Harriers with an impressive 22 out of the 30 juniors finishing in the top half. As well as trying to beat the competition there were also a number of sibling battles going on with Sam and Sophie Allott, Hector, Corrie and Skye Patterson, Holly and Robyn Crawford, Emma and Hollie Grieve, Niamh and Connie Rafferty all competing.

10K

Following the fun run the shout went out for the 71 adults registered for the 10k to line up. Alongside entrants from local clubs Teviotdale, Gala and Moorfoot were competitors from Penicuik, Edinburgh, East Lothian, Sunderland, Telford, Newcastle and Shropshire, as well as a number of local entrants including the Hawick News’ own running sensation Gavin Gibbon, dropping down the distance from marathon to 10k on this occasion. The 10k route is a 2 lap course through the park, round Martins’ Bridge along the main road past the High School with the finish on the green at the Haugh. The winner in an impressive time of 33.52 was Craig Isherwood of Sunderland Harriers, 2nd was Wayne Dashfer of Telford Athletics in 36.11. Wayne was formerly a member of Teviotdale Harriers whilst based here a few years back and it was good to see him back on familiar territory. Alistair Spanner, unattached was 3rd in 37.04. Next over the line and picking up the title of 1st female was Gala Harrier Diane Lauder in 37.29. Fellow team mates took 2nd and 3rd places Kirstin Maxwell 2nd in 40.11 and Rachel Fagan 3rd in 41.02. The team prize went to Gala Harriers comprising Diane Lauder, Martin Clarke and Kirstin Maxwell. The 1st male veteran honours went to Peter Hearn, Tynebridge Harriers with a time of 38.55 and 1st female veteran was Kelly Costello, unattached in a time of 45.02. 1st female over 40 was Joanne McLeod, a Teviotdale Harrier in her teenage years now running for Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers. 1st female over 50 was Eileen Maxwell, Gala Harriers. Running for Teviotdale Harriers were Alan Inglis 40.17, Michael Yule 44.11, Barry Spence and Alan Samuel both recording 45.55, Ron Hastings 48.05, Paul Lockie 50.34 and Anne Renwick 55.00. Parent helper at the club, Tracy Crawford recorded 53.17 in her first competition.
