SCOTTISH CROSS COUNTRY RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS
SATURDAY 22nd OCTOBER, CUMBERNAULD

Cumbernauld was the destination last weekend for Teviotdale Harriers third road trip in a row. This outing was to the Scottish Cross Country Relay Championships.

This event attracts runners from all over the country and Harriers had 20 competitors keen to compete. As well as the excitement of participating in such a prestigious event the juniors (and seniors) enjoyed the added excitement of the presence of no less than 4 Olympians, Derek & Callum Hawkins, Tsegai Twelde and Andrew Butchart, all of whom competed in a GB vest recently in Rio and 3 of which ran that day. Cameras were out and our youngsters (and seniors) bagged some selfies and group pictures to add to their scrapbooks. How enjoyable, encouraging and inspiring for our juniors to be competing alongside these top class athletes at this event.

The team banner and tent were soon up and quickly filled up with the kit of one full boys’ team, one full girls’ team, one full ladies team now running 4 legs instead of 3 as in the past and two and a half senior men teams.

First to run were our girls who finished 66th team. Leg one u13 girl was Nadine Elder 11.46, Carly Blaikie u15 leg 12.41 then Ishbel Inglis u17 leg 11.41. Our boys finished 74th team. Harrison Hughes was away first on the u13 leg finishing in 12.21, u15 leg Thomas MacAskill 10.31, u17 leg Fraser Clyne 9.28.

Ladies next and Lauren Corbett took on the task of first leg runner completing in 17.35, 2nd leg Kirsty Hughes in 19.40, 3rd leg Anne Aitken 21.00 and last leg Donna Inglis in 21.24. Team position 40th.

Senior men had an A B and C team. Team A finished 51st as follows: Rory Anderson 13.18, Greg Walker 13.47, Derek Scott 14.52 and Scott Watson 14.52. Team B 99th: Andy Goodair 15.23, Alan Inglis 15.43, Alister Biggar 16.50 and Andrew Gibson 16.58. Our C team was incomplete with only 2 runners Paul Lockie in 18.25 and Alan Coltman in 18.47.
