It was a busy weekend for Teviotdale Harriers with 2 races taking place. The Menzies Races on Saturday and the Christmas Relays on Sunday. A total of 42 athletes lined up on Saturday despite the strong wind and heavy rain. First away were the u11/13 boys and girls. Victory for the boys went to Thomas MacAskill in 10.06, followed by newcomer Langholm lad Conan Harper in 10.34 then Jai Patterson one second later to take 3rd place. Fastest actual time Jai Patterson. In the girls race Maddie Hewitt was 1st in 10.35, 2nd Ava Hughes in 11.22 then Maddi Patterson in 11.38. Fastest actual time Maddie Hewitt. All times include handicaps.
The men, women and u15/17 boys and girls then lined up together outside the park gates for their sealed handicapped competition. Women and youngsters follow a route through the park to Martin’s Bridge then down the A7 to finish at the High School, whilst the men continue from Martin’s Bridge to the Joogly Bridge, then Branxholm Bridge, down the A7 to the same finish at the school. In the u15/17 boys race Fraser Clyne crossed the line first in a time of 18.57, 2nd place went to Jamie Waugh in 20.24. In the ladies/girls event Lauren Corbett was first in 22.32, 2nd Pam Paxton in 23.13 with Ishbel Inglis taking 3rd place in 23.27. Handicap winners were Jamie Waugh and Lucy Ash, 2nd Macy Cropper and 3rd Anne Aitken. Fraser Clyne was presented with the J M Hamilton Trophy after the race by Mrs Marjorie Hamilton.
First to cross the line out of the 16 competitors in the senior men’s race was Rory Anderson in 27.22, 2nd Greig Walker in 28.16 then Andy Goodair in 30.03. Handicap winner was Greig Walker 2nd Francis Cannon and 3rd Derek McHugh.
