Saturday past saw the harriers meet up on Hawick Moor for the running of the Jubilee Cup. Although a crisp bright afternoon awaited the runners the conditions underfoot were soft and wet to say the least. One member remarked he hadn’t seen the ground so soft and wet since 1953!
First off were the junior boys and girls. Taking a lead from the start and holding it right through to the finish was 1st girl Katie Jaffray 15:24, followed by Ishbel Inglis 16:16, then Phoebe Donaldson 16:44. For the boys, first to cross the line was David Mercer 15:35, quickly followed by Joseph Tottman 15:41 then Ben Morozzo 16:09.
Next off were the ladies and youths on a tough and extremely muddy course, mud up to the knees in some places! Coming in first for the ladies was recently returned Lauren Corbett 25:16, followed by 2nd lady Pamela Paxton 25:43 and in 3rd place Sylvia Grieve 25:49. For the youths there was a nail biting finish between Kyle Potts 25:30 and Nathanael Jones 25:31 with Kyle Potts just coming out on top. In 3rd place was Keiron Pringle 26:50.
Finally the men on a longer course, described in the past by a visitor from an Edinburgh club as far too difficult for cross country, the course conditions added to that made for a gruelling effort by all. With a good turnout by the men opinions were given on who would take the spoils. On the racecourse the battle began between Derek Scott, Raymond Jaffray and Alan Inglis with Derek Scott 37:24 holding on to take 1st place, 2nd place Raymond 37:25 and 3rd place Alan 37:42. Well done to Charlie Marshall having just moved up to the senior men category on completing this most difficult of courses.
