Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships

On Saturday 21st April 2012 the Scottish Primary Schools Cross Country Championships were held in Kirkcaldy. For the first time in many years, Hawick schools – Wilton, Stirches and Trinity had some children competing. The competition is open to all primary schools in Scotland, both state and private schools, for P6 and P7 pupils. There were over 1,200 competitors on the day.

The course covered a distance of 1,500 metres and due to the heavy rain was pretty muddy and slippy making it tricky on the steep rises and tight corners. First to race was Teviotdale Harrier newcomer Lucy Graham for Stirches P6 girls finishing in 99th position. Next race saw Fraser Clyne, P6 Wilton run a blistering race to finish in 9th position. Fraser had been hoping for a top 20 position so to come in at 9th place was a fantastic achievement for him.

With the course now well and truly churned over the P7 girls set off. Running for Stirches was Emma Grieve and for Trinity were Ishbel Inglis and Carly Yule. There was a bit of pushing and shoving in this very fast paced race but the girls all thoroughly enjoyed the experience finishing as follows: Ishbel Inglis 46th, Carly Yule 95th and Emma Grieve 107th. Last race of the day saw Trinity P7 pupil Jamie Waugh line up for the boys. In yet another fast paced race the boys set off with Jamie coming home in 72nd position.

As with both the Hawick Primary and Borders Primary Cross Country Races this race is now hopefully on the school calendar for future years and will see a larger number of competitors taking part in future to represent not only their school but their town.

End of Season Club Run & Social – Sunday 24 June 2012

Captain Alan Coltman has organised this years end of season Club Run/Social to the Woll on Sunday 24th June.

It is suggested that walkers leave the High Street Clubrooms at 9.30am followed by the runners at 10.30am. Kit Bags will be transported to the Woll where male and female showers are available. There will be food and drinks to purchase in the Woll restaurant

7 seater taxi’s will be available at a cost of £20 per trip back to Hawick. There is also the X95 bus from Ashkirk but at £3 a head per full taxi trip this will probably be the best option.

No deposit required but an idea of numbers for the restaurant would help.

Please email Alan Coltman if you are interested in coming along on

It would be great to see as many club members as possible enjoy an end of season get together whether you want to run, bike, walk or take the bus.

Alan Reid has been busy and there are updates in the Archive Section for the Ben Nevis Race and the East District results.
