Silver Success for Jim at British Masters

BRITISH MASTERS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
RUTHIN, NORTH WALES
SATURDAY 14th MARCH 2015

Teviotdale Harriers had 3 members competing at the British Masters Cross Country Championships last weekend. Alan Samuel, Francis Cannon and Jim Pittillo made the journey down to Ruthin, North Wales for the competition.  Alan Samuel was first harrier to cross the line in 30:17, position 25th. Next was Francis Cannon in 33:25, position 40th then Jim Pittillo in 37:27, position 45th. Jim picked up the silver medal for 2nd over-80. Well done Jim.

Cup Races 7/3/15

Wet and very windy conditions were the order of the day for Teviotdale Harriers last race of the season. The Moor Cup held on Hawick Race-course is one of the oldest cross country races in the country and a good number of harriers turned out despite the nasty weather conditions. Amongst them were newcomers Maddi Patterson and Kirsty Hughes.

First away on their lap and a half course were the u11/u13 boys and girls. Taking the lead early on and holding it to the line was Boyd Hughes in a time of 9.58, 2nd boy Fraser Clyne in 10.10 and 3rd William Brodie in 10.22. Fastest actual time Fraser Clyne. In the girls race sister Ava Hughes took 1st place in 10.09, 2nd newcomer Maddi Patterson in 10.19 and 3rd Macy Cropper in 10.39. Fastest actual time Carly Blaikie.

Next to run their 2 lap course were the u15/17 boys and girls and ladies. 1st place after a close finish between the 2 ladies went to Donna Inglis in 14.13 with Lauren Corbett just seconds behind in 14.17, 3rd place went to Anne Renwick in 14.44. Fastest actual time Ishbel Inglis. Jamie Waugh crossed the line for the boys in 14.26. Jamie also had fastest actual time overall.

Last race of the day was the 4 lap course for senior men. With the strong wind face on in the home straight conditions were arduous. There were 13 men competing with an age range of 19 to 81 years of age. Crossing the line 1st was Bruce Hughes in 26.46, 2nd Alan Inglis in 27.29. Alan also picks up the Glencairn Trophy for fastest 40- plus runner in this race, 3rd place went to Rory Anderson in 27.45. Fastest actual time Rory Anderson. Keeping an eye on proceedings was Ian ‘Herb’ Elliot who set the course record in 1975 with a finishing time of 14.28.

SCOTTISH CROSS COUNTRY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

 
Cold sleety snow and an icy wind greeted competitors on arrival at Callendar House, Falkirk where the Scottish Cross Country National Championships were being held on Sunday 22nd February. Conditions were so bad the officials’ tent was one of a number that blew away. There are reports of one tent hitting a runner as the wind lifted it off the ground. Regardless of weather conditions 2015 saw the highest number of entrants for 21 years.  Teviotdale Harriers had a small team competing and luckily a sturdy new tent that remained in position all day. The first race of the day was the u13 boys race covering a distance of 3,200m and Teviotdale had 3 boys competing. First home for the club was Fraser Clyne in a time of 12.51, position 58th, next Jai Patterson in 13.28, position 92nd then Johnlee Elder in 16.49, position 162nd. Overall winner of this race was Hamish Armitt of Giffnock North AAC who is currently a British record holder.
 
Next race for Teviotdale was the u15 girls event and the club had one runner. Ishbel Inglis completed her 4,000m event in 18.03, position 72nd. By this time conditions underfoot were soft and muddy to say the least. Giffnock North once again had overall winner in Erin Wallace currently SAIL 800m Scottish record holder.
 
Next to run was Pauline McAdam in the senior ladies 8,000m race. Pauline finished her 2 lap route in 44.01, position 206th. This race had a highly dramatic finish with Rosie Smith of HBT, who lead from early on, being beaten on the final straight by Australian student Maddie Murray currently a podiatory student and runner for Edinburgh AC.
 
Last away were the senior men on their 3 lap, 12,000m route.  There were almost 600 competitors in this race alone and it was an amazing sight to see the vast number of runners crest the hill.  Teviotdale had 5 competitors finishing as follows: Rory Anderson 44.51, position 92nd, Bruce Hughes 49.28, position 247th, Alan Inglis 51.23, position 315th, Alan Coltman 1:03:53, position 541st and Paul Lockie 1:09:45, position 565th. The senior men’s race had all eyes on 2 men as the ongoing battle between Callum Hawkins Kilbarchan AAC and Andrew Butchart Central AC for 1st place ensued. Andrew took the lead on the third lap and maintained it to finish champion 18 seconds ahead of Callum in a time of 38.06.
