11 members left the clubrooms on Sunday morning for the end of season run to the Woll for lunch and social afternoon.
The route was under debate prior to leaving but the group decided to head out of town via Rosalee brae which saw Alan Inglis nearly meet with an early exit down a concealed hole in the long grass, unfortunately Paul Lockie wasn’t quick enough to capture photo evidence of the tumble. We then took a short cut over the hill to Calaburn, the ladies in the group couldn’t believe the group had covered 3 miles in 50 minutes and we were only on the outskirts of Hawick! The group then headed up the track before heading over moor land to the Ogilvie Cairn – only one muddy section to negotiate but the wet ground on the hills soon cleaned off the dirt. Paul was ever present with his camera capturing some fine shots. Just before reaching the Cairn we were caught in a heavy down pour which certainly cooled the runners down.
A group photo was taken at the cairn and then onto the tarmac for the final 2 miles downhill to the Woll, the rain decided to keep us company on the way down, clearing just before arriving at the Woll.
The group were joined for lunch by Bart and Rob Robson who caught the bus to Ashkirk and walked the mile to the Woll. Also joining the runners were Emma and Holly Grieve, Eilidh, Mhairi and Ishbel Inglis along with Sharon and Steven.
The runners got showered and changed and tucked into a well earned lunch.
I think everyone will agree that the run and lunch were a great success and hopefully something that will become an annual event.
Some of the longer serving member of the club shared some great stories with the newer members……and believe me the Harriers is not all about running!
